A royal dispute
Two reviewers, too strong and different opinions

The following review is sung to the tune of "The Girl From Impanema"

Long and boring and slow and pond'rous
The queen from England sure leaves you wonderin'
How a complex woman like Liz comes off so shallow

She's headstrong and brave and loyal
the girl who's Henry's daughter's real royal
what made her who she was ain't readily seen

Cate (as in Blanchett) is marvelous,
Geoff (as in Rush) is stupendous,
But that's 'bout as far as it goes
Joseph Fiennes looks real fine without clothes ...

Instead of crafty Liz comes off as brassy,
like someone straight from the pages of "Sassy"
All the great acting in the world can't save this script,
It's a real piece of

Theater or Video?
Florid, high-blown and high-falutin', it might fill a big screen OK, but I wouldn't pay the eight bucks for it; rent it, you'll waste less money that way.

This is an excellent film, with lots to think about and an absolutely stunning performance by Cate Blanchett.

Elizabeth was a fabulous queen, and this movie tells the story of how she went from being a promising young woman to one of the greatest leaders in the history of the planet.

Geoffrey Rush, as always, is great to watch.

This film requires a certain amount of concentration, and it doesn't hurt to have a smattering of English history in your brain. Well worth some watching time.
